The Best Strains for New Cannabis Users

Trying Cannabis for the first time can be somewhat intimidating. Green Point Wellness offers over 100 strains and about six different methods to use cannabis. Here is what to look for when deciding what strains will be best.

Calming Terpenes

When smoking for the first time a lot of patients have reported feeling anxious or overwhelmed. Terpenes are organic compounds found in many plants including cannabis. These compounds have different therapeutic effects that will affect your experience. Ask your budtender for strains that include Linalool & Caryophyllene which have anti-anxiety and calming effects that help soothe your soul and ease your mind.

Strain Types

There are two classifications of  cannabis strains. Indica strains offer that relaxing, sometimes sleepy effect. For most users, they are best at night because they can help you unwind and drift off into a serene sleep. Sativas on the other hand, are more uplifting and energetic. They can leave you feeling bright eyed & bushy tailed, as if you can accomplish anything for your day.

However, it is key that you know what other elements to look for when choosing what strains to use because while sativas can be uplifting and encouraging, a THC percentage that is too high can make you feel racey and anxious. This can go for Indicas as well, when you are just starting off, too much THC can leave you feeling groggy or paranoid.

To avoid any unwanted or uncomfortable feelings when using cannabis, here are some suggestions on strains to try as a first time user;

Sativa Strains

  • Grapefruit Sour Dream- Grapefruit Sour Dream provides uplifted effects and helps keep anxiety at bay. It is great for soothing aches and pains during the day and with a low thc it provides a euphoric high without being too overwhelming. It has a smooth berry diesel flavor to compliment its blissful effects.

  • Cherry Punch- If happiness and complete euphoria had a baby, it would result in the makings of Cherry Punch. This joyful strain is great for any time of the day when you want to be upbeat and jubilant, leaving users feeling like they have no care in the world. Cherry Punch is also known for helping with nausea and GI issues, because with its high amount of Limonene, it helps to settle the stomach. With this strain, starting off slow is key, just a small amount can take first time users where they wanna be.

  • Jack Herer- A classic old school strain that is well-known all across the world. Jack Herer is great for focus and high energy while. Genetically, most Jack Herer strains don’t produce a high THC so it is perfect for cannabis novices and those who want to be creative and clear-minded throughout the day.

Indica Strains

  • Lavender Jones- offers a very calming effect with anti-convulsive and anti-anxiety properties. This strain typically has a large amount of Linalool and is great for body pain and aches. Its effects aren’t too heavy so it won’t leave you feeling groggy or paranoid.

  • Blue Coral- this strain leaves you feeling like you're swimming in blue water by the coral reef. Its heavy combination of Limonene, Humulene and Myrcene provide uplifting effects so you can chill out watching your favorite TV show or while you’re getting cozy with a good book. The high amount of Humulene also helps to suppress your appetite so you don’t feel as though you need to eat everything in your pantry.

  • Mango 1:1- this strain by Willie's Reserve has an awesome 1:1 ratio of CBD:THC. Not only does it taste like mangos, it helps to relieve every nerve in your body and provide a complete sense of relaxation. Mango 1:1 is great for treating patients with severe anxiety, PTSD, psychosis and helps to relieve pain caused by inflammation. This strain provides a slight euphoria without being too overwhelming and helps you wind down and quiet the mind. It is great to always have on hand because you can mix the CBD content with higher testing strains to counteract the psychoactive effects of THC.

Always check the THC percentage and terpenes to help moderate your medicated high and get the relief that you are seeking.Our store also offers preroll joints for new users, the Lite Buds by Vireo and Dogwalkers are best. The Lite buds are all 2-10% total THC so the effects won’t be so heavy and overwhelming. Dogwalker 5 packs are rolled into .35g that make for a very short preroll.

We always recommend keeping a cannabis journal to document what strains you tried and how they helped.
